Tourism Chief Announces Air Dominicana Investment, Virgin Flights

Santo Domingo.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia announced the arrival of a group of Spanish investors in two weeks to propose a US$300 million investment in the national airline Dominican Air. “These investors are going to completely transform what was our initial concept for Dominican Air which was a company that arose with an initial capital investment of US$10 million," the official said in a statement sent from London where he headed the country’s delegation in the World Travel Mark… Continue

British Airways Adds Extra Seats to Dominican Republic

London.– New flights by British Airways to the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean destinations will mean an additional 2,000 seats to the region.
With increased frequency to St. Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and Bermuda scheduled for next summer and new flights from Gatwick to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica will offer an extra 2,000 seats a week to the Caribbean from Gatwick.

Reuters: Dominican Tourism Appears to Have Weathered Global Storm

Santo Domingo.- As tourist arrivals appear to continue the downward trend, prospects for Caribbean arrivals in 2009 remain negative, especially given the start of the hurricane season in August, although Dominican Republic appears to have weathered the storm, Reuters reports.
